I use Internet Explorer as my default browser, but I also have FireFox downloaded and ready to use. It has such cool features and add-ons, and a lot of pages work better in FireFox, some that won't work at all in I.E. So by downloading FireFox you don't have to replace the browser you use now. You can make it your default browser after trying it awhile. It's really cool!
I personally think ZoneAlarm is one of the best and most highly effective free firewalls available today (better than a lot of paid versions). Down load this firewall and it will teach you and train itself as you use it. Very user friendly. You'll really be safe. Don't forget to check for system updates!
A free powerful award winning anti virus software!
Scan your hard drive for viruses and spyware with this free online

minutes. HouseCall scans and fixes any infected files.
I switched to The Weather Channel's desktop local weather display, just because it's new and I wanted something different. Lot's of extras and also free, install it!
This program has literally saved my computer's life!
Ad-aware Standard Edition (by LavaSoft)is THE award winning, free, multicomponent detection and removal utility. I dig it. I use 3 spy and ad ware detectors. Spy-Bot, Ad-Aware and SpyBlaster. I like to keep my fire engine clean...."It's a clean machine..."
SPYBLASTER
ieSpell is a cool little free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums, blogs, diaries). I get a lot of use from it.

The developer says: "Rainlendar is a small customizable calendar that displays the current month. It is a very lightweight application that doesn't use much system resources or take much space on your desktop". I really can't describe it better than that. It does what it says it will do and more and it's free. What more can you ask? Rainlendar is a very nice, lightweight application. No Spyware and no Adware. Install it here: Rainlendar
